Making a light foldable camping wooden bow saw in a TRADITIONAL manner is very demanding. Join me and check out how I made this amazing lightweight camping saw – only 10,5 oz (300 g).

Initial designs for the bow saw.

Of course, the first thing I did was to put a few designs on paper and see what could be a better option. Since I am making this type of saw for the first time, I will keep it as simple as possible. Therefore I am choosing the design on the left side.

In the video below you can enjoy watching where I am making a foldable camping saw in a traditional manner!

About The Material

For this build I used Accoya wood, brand new saw blade, screws and the string.

Accoya wood is incredible, it is lightweight, strong and long lasting. I found data where the manufacturer says that the Accoya wood will last 50 years outside over the ground level and 25 years if it is buried or submerged into fresh water. That is just amazing.

Saw blade is produced in Sweden by Bahco and it is 21″ long. You can find them in any hardware store or online. Here is an affiliate link to Amazon: https://amzn.to/3hiTYbE

The Build Process

I started by cutting the Accoya block into smaller pieces by hand. Mark them in desired shape and sizes and cut once again in smaller pieces.

To smooth the surface I used a round and flat wooden plane, coarser and finer rasp and at the end sandpaper 120 and 240 grit.

I had to adjust all pieces a few times and make sure that they fit properly.

After final assembly, I tested it out and loved it. It is extremely light in hand and the Bahco blade is incredible. It cuts both ways, so it is really efficient.
