This time I did old chisel restoration project without disassembling the old chisel. Chisel itself was in bad shape including the handle as well, but that is expected since the chisel is very old.
First I started restoring the metal part. I was using sand paper with different grains to remove surface rust. Than I used several different shapes of small files to remove deep stains and debris on the metal. When that was out of the way I started working on wooden handle. Nasty top bit caught my eye and I did that part first. Used planer to remove damaged wood and afterwards cutted that part with hand saw. Next step was to remove thin layer of old wood on the handle and did it with same planer. I had some rough edges on handle, so used sand paper 180 – 320 grit to sand it down and get smooth edges and surfaces. As a last step I covered the handle with teak oil and wait to dry. There you have it!
