Finally I have hands on an old knife which is perfect for restoration! In today’s video I will be restoring this rusty Norwegian knife. Whole process was quite long, longer then what I expected. I haven’t used power tools and I guess that is why took longer time.
I started with a sanding with several different sandpaper grits. Some of what I used are: 180, 240, 320, 600 grit. Then I used several different types of files for metal part and wooden part. After removing old handle, I have marked for new one, cut it in wanted shape and use chisel (sharpen screwdriver was handy) to make a groove for the knife to fit in. Glued everything together and left to dry overnight.
Check out this old knife restoration!

Next step was to give better shape to the new handle and make it symmetrical. So far, so good, handle is ready to be coated with oil to protect the wood. Best part in this restoration project was sharpening and cutting that paper at the and. With that result I know I did good work.

Overhaul, I used for this restoration project way over 9 hours and used material for this old and rusty work where: old knife, wooden peace for the handle, glue, red plastic sheet, teak oil. Tools used for this restoration project where: hand saw for wood, sandpaper 180, 240, 320, 600 grit, something to measure and mark, chisel (screwdriver), steel brush, table clamp, hammer, screwdriver, quick grip clamp, wet stone for sharpening.
